The newest addition to the lovely décor of the already lovely yellow door house. Upon removal of the soccer ball from the mantle I went into a serious décor depression. There was no longer any fun or imaginativeness about the decorations in the shared spaces of our house. It was all pretty, formal and adult like. No one enjoys being an adult so obviously I schemed to once again have a childlike décor brighten up the adult like features of the house. So I dove into my collection of 3 year old play things to see how I could bring joy back into the house. I found crayons, markers, stickers, paint, sparkles and then I realized it had been staring at me the entire time. From the top of my dresser two wide eyes stared at me from the head of balckness. Penguin! Why had I not thought of this before. It was pure genius. So I dug through my closet till I found a bag of beanie babies that were getting sad on account of not being played with. I took them out and created a wonderful display using my cat attacked basket as a pedestal. When I was finished I grinned knowing I had succeed in bringing child like wonder back into the four walls of our house.

From the summer archives

Amanda was busily cleaning her room once again trying to find that magical hole punch that would help organize her binders. As she looked deep into the corners and hollows of her room she came upon a treasure she had long since forgotten about. She grinned happily as she resumed carrying out the plan she had started long ago at capital ex.

It was a warm summer day in the northern city of Edmonton. Amanda was pacing across the entrance way at capital ex waiting for the ever tardy btittni. She had expected her roommate to be slightly late based on the fact her roommate was supposed to be coming from the land of coffee. Finally the pair arriced at the races the moment the first race had finsihe. Up and up the two climbed wondering if they would ever find their seats? Finaly the top of the stair case was in view. But alas it was trickery for at the top of the staircase and around the corner was the final staircase they would have to ascend to find the seats . They settled into the very stylish plastic area style seats. Amanda reached into her backpack and pulled out a chocolate bar from her stash.
"let's make this interesting. Let's bet and the winner buys the other..."

"mini donuts." Brittni suggested. With a nod of the head Amanda agreed to the terms and the bet was on. Each round they made a bet on a winner based on the colorful canvases atop of each wagon. In the end Amanda used her superior knowledge of chuck-wagons and figure 8 patterns to reign champion.

The two made their way to the expo centre to try and escape from crazy crowds of the outdoors. There was also a promise of fun childlike activities within. Into the family fun zone the pair adventured. They discovered a world they could hardly imagined. An exhibit in the back corner caught their eyes. The word "animation" jumped out them. Amanda and Brittni smiled as they were engulfed by the process and history of animation. As with every great exhibit it ended on a gift shop where they found treasures to take home.

These were no ordinary treasures but instead characterizations of the occupants of the yellow door house. There was a oddly Disney theme about the choices. The ever conscious Kasie was represented by Piglet. Eeyore was selected for the emotionless Amanda. The unofficial roommate was given Tinker bell. The last roommate was given the only non Disney character, c3p0, was selected for the very special Brittni. These characters now occupy the house of the yellow door to make up for the absent students.

The pair went back outside into the now coolness of the night and listened to the musical talents of Terri Clarke to end off the awesome day.

From Religious debates to professing our love

It was an ordinary Sunday evening for the residence of the house with the yellow door. Church was set to begin in a half hour and Amanda had yet to arrive home in order to transport her roommates to chruch. Her room began to wonder if she would ever show up or if she had finally decided to join the dark side. Alas Amanda showed up at the last minute! Honda to civic to the rescue. Of they went to the project( that place of heathens) arrive fashionably late as usual. As they walked into the overly large church they could heard the worship music coming from the darkened sanctuary. The room mates engaged in a game of hide in go seek to find the unofficially room mate. As a game of Marco polo was out of the question they decided to use the method text and search. After finding the unofficial room mate they enjoyed a "relevant" church service. At some point in time during the service they were joined by David. After the service had been complete he asked the three what their plans were and they stared blankly at him with a look that seemed to say "what is planning?". So they mumbled through some conversation and decided to go scold Brittni for being a bad Lutheran. So off they piled into the cars and headed off to the house were Brittni was avoiding religion. So into Brittni's hideout they piled into and were greeted by a "Oh hello there" from Dawn the hideout's host. The two other occupants of the house shrugged in greeting but soon they would be interested by their visitors as they started to scold Brittni for being so unlutheran. And that started the great debate about what actually did it mean to be a Lutheran and it seemed no one could quite agree. With heads about to explode Dawn decided to cool the tensions and suggested we would play a game of things. Soon laughter was heard throughout the house as the super hero rock solid, epic fail, dr. farts alot, the leaker, captain no toes, the accountant and everyone's favourite super hero "THE MAN". The Man could tie a tie perfectly every time! Everyone's favourite superhero. The next round ensues only to be rudely interrupted by a male stomach. So David and Dawn tag teamed it to feet the suddenly hungry gamers. So with full stomachs the gang continued their gaming until eyes started to close. "One more round then we're off." announced Amanda. So Brittni came up with the last question of the night. "Before the evening ends everyone must profess their love for someone either real or fictional." Here are the answers to Brittni's epic question: To Greg...sure why not: "I love you." To Bram: " Skinamarinnky Dinky Dinky Shinamarinnky Doo, I love you" To Henry the 8th: "I will never forget th first time I laid eyes on your awesome, authority. I want to be your next wife. And I prefer a beheading to a divorce." To all the girls of love's past.: "To whom it may concern - I have a deep and abiding love for you. That really sucks for me. Please stop being so sexy, or leave this dimension." To those girls: "you're hot, and you love vedio games and hate school! Okay, I uh really need to phrase this more romantically." To those Nazi lovers: "um, when, oh, uh, ya, so, heil hitler." To General Mills : O maker of cheerios - you brought me joy when i was young- in church pews, before school, in handfuls - and for adding apples and cinnamon you have my undying affection.: To those I love: "Sup! Baby I love your swollen man feet. Come with me sexy!" And with those parting words they headed off David with a wii in hand, much to the annoyance of this brother, into the darkness of the night hoping not to get lost on the way home.

Cable and an ipod

To set the scene. Amanda was exhausted from another day of building sand castles and sun tanning so naturally she needed to find some way to entertain herself or else sleep would overtake her. She could not let that happen, so she devised a plan to avoid sleep. Luckily for her two distractions dropped into her yellow door house just as she was about to give up and fall asleep. The one distraction was rather silent all night as the tv had memorized her using its cable connection as bait. The other distraction was busy updating her ipod. After a skype call from her Dad, Amanda grew restless, the conversation in the room was entertaining but she needed something more to satisfy her limited attention span. So she started a conversation with the ipod updater over texting but soon that grew tiresome as the responses were not quick enough. She decided to switch to using the source of all truth also known as facebook to conduct the rest of her secret conversation. The text below is how this conversation went:

Amanda: boo! why are you at my house
Sara:well i just like randomly showing up at strange peoples houses and staying past my welcome
Amanda:well i thought my dad told you to leave hours ago. You dont seem to listen to well
Sara: i dont,i am mostly deaf in both ears
Amanda: next time i will sign it
Sara: ok sounds good, first you are going to have to teach me to sign
Amanda:first i will have to learn how to sign
okay new plan next time i will write it out
on poster board in bubble letters
Sara: i am illiterate.... just very good at multiple guess exams
Amanda: than i will display it pictorially
Sara:oh, i dont understand art forms either
Amanda: some artist you are
Sara: i know, i like to fake my way through things
Amanda: You are very good at faking you should go into politics.
Sara:i dont like politics...

Amanda: What about a pop singer
Sara:sure i can be a poop singer
Amanda:Okay what about a movie star
Sara:sure i can mooooo too

Hope you enjoyed Amanda's attempt to entertain herself.

Amandasaurous

The Amandasaurus is a rare species from the yellow door region.  A bi-ped with long arms and quick feet, this dinosaur is an avid soccer player and watcher of Disney films.  The diet of the Amandasaurous consists mainly of oatmeal, tomato soup, and fruit snacks, with a developed taste for chai lattes.  Sleep is a neccessity for the Amandasaurous, and naps in the late afternoon or during young adult Bible studies are not unheard of.  The Amandasaurous is a friendly creature, especially towards children, and though seemingly mild and shy on first meeting, is an active, observant, and super fun dinosaur!

We <3 Amandasaurous!
